Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the top-streamed track within 6 months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to this genre but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Then, various artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars like Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019. In 2020, several Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the advancing of the genre toward the mainstream. However, a younger generation like Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the development. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms and other genres into his songs.
